After working as a community news reporter for the Los Angeles Times for four years, I moved to San Francisco to pursue a master’s degree, and started getting involved with journalism education.

I helped create and facilitate teen journalism programs at the Center for Integration and Improvement of Journalism at San Francisco State University in 2005 and 2006, and realized I loved being a part of the journalism education process. I started teaching journalism in adjunct, visiting lecturer roles in 2009.

Here’s a timeline of my roles as a journalism educator in the Bay Area and London, England:

Santa Clara University: teaching multiple journalism writing and reporting courses for the 2026-27 academic year

West Portal Elementary School, San Francisco: taught a 6-week journalism program to fifth-graders in 2026

San Jose State University: taught an Intro to Journalism reporting course in 2025-26

UC Berkeley: co-taught a graduate-level reporting lab in 2025, and taught an Intro to Journalism course in the summer journalism minor program from 2016 to 2022

Mission High School, San Francisco: volunteered with 826 Valencia to help students produce the Mission Chronicle newspaper and magazine in 2024

UCLA: taught a music journalism course in the Music Industry Minor program in the Herb Alpert School of Music in 2022.

San Francisco State University: taught Intro to Journalism, Magazine Writing, Social Impact of Journalism, and advised the campus newspaper and magazine from 2019 to 2022

Cal State University, East Bay: taught Intro to Journalism and advised the campus newspaper from 2013 to 2018

City University, London: taught graduate-level and undergraduate reporting courses from 2009 to 2012

London School of Journalism: taught writing and reporting courses from 2009 to 2012.
